    Border Patrol agent arrested on child porn charges

    Abel Michael Quiroz, 26, made his initial appearance in federal court Wednesday and remains in custody pending a detention hearing, which has yet to be scheduled, according to a Department of Justice news release. Quiroz was arrested on charges of receiving and possessing visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, according to the release.

    Homeland Security initiated an investigation into Quiroz after receiving information that he was allegedly having inappropriate communications with a 15-year-old. When executing a search warrant, investigators found nude and sexually explicit photos of the child and numerous sexually explicit emails between Quiroz and the victim, according to the release. There is no evidence suggesting Quiroz used government-owned equipment for the alleged activities, according to the release.
